MalWhere Frequently Asked Questions

>> What is MalWhere?

MalWhere is the perfect complement to firewalls and anti-virus software; with MalWhere you can monitor all the processes that run on your computer and identify those that impose a security risk. >> How do I use MalWhere?

All you need to do is to run the program. MalWhere will show you the processes that currently running on your computer and rate each one of them. If a process is already familiar to MalWhere, it will rate it immediately and describe it for you. If a process is new and unfamiliar, MalWhere will query Google and according to the results it will rate and describe it for you.

>> Can MalWhere be used to clean my computer from viruses and spyware?

MalWhere isn't designed to remove malicious software, it is designed to give you an idea if you are infected by it and where it resides. If you find that you are indeed infected you can try to kill or delete the malicious process. We recommend using professional software to remove viruses and Trojans.

>> Why does a process show 25% threat certainty when it's a legit program?

If MalWhere doesn't recognize the process it queries Google for more information. Certain programs are more related to security risks than others, for example: mirc.exe isn't a Trojan or a spyware, but many times by using it you can get infected. It inflicts on the results from Google so the threat certainty rises.

>> How does MalWhere work?

MalWhere goes through all the running processes and tries to match a description and risk factor. If MalWhere cannot find a description on its local database, it queries Google for more information. Using its AI (Artificial Intelligence) engine, MalWhere analyzes and evaluates the results it receives and determines the threat and description for the process. MalWhere also displays a list of the files that loads on Windows startup. Using the same procedure described above, MalWhere analyzes each file and gives you the option to remove it from the startup list.

>> I tried to kill a process, but couldn't. why?

Sometimes a process is being used by another process so MalWhere cannot kill it.

>> Can I reset the process descriptions MalWhere retrieved from Google?

Yes. Just click on the "Reset" button. MalWhere will re-query Google for all the unrecognized processes.

>> What does "Threat (Certainty)" mean?

Threat Certainty defined how much a process is related to security risks. If a process is known by MalWhere it will receive either the probability of 1% if it poses no risk or 100% if it does. If MalWhere does not recognize the process, it will try to evaluate the results it receives from Google and calculate the threat certainty.
